First things first, tell us a bit about your business and how you got started…
Giggly Llama’s aim in life is to give you that twinkly sparkly knitting feeling whatever you’re doing, even when you don’t have time to knit all day. How cool would that be though?!
I’m a bit of a knitting addict myself, as well as a graphic designer. I decided to combine my two passions and so Giggly Llama Knitting was born to create whimsical lovely things full of knitting goodness to brighten even the dullest day. I launched Giggly Llama in 2018 selling greeting cards, and have since added prints and mugs.
I create my designs in my studio and work with carefully selected UK-based production partners to bring my ideas to life and into your home. I only use high quality materials, and I choose eco-friendly wherever possible to protect our environment for future generations of knitters and crocheters.
So please enjoy browsing and treat yourself or a friend so you can enjoy that knitting feeling all day long!
What’s your favourite product of yours and why?
I love my black and white ‘Ladies&Gentlemen’ cards, which have been my bestsellers so far. They are old fashioned yet whimsical and make me smile every time.
What’s your favourite project you’ve ever made?
Oooh. Probably one of the cardigans I knitted for my girls when they were babies. The thing I was most proud of was a sequinned intarsia sweater for the older one that I finished earlier this year. Though I also hated it with a passion by the time it was finished. It turns out that sewing up with sequinned yarn is my least favourite crafting activity. Ever.
What inspires your products?
Funny knitting expressions! I love a good knitting joke.
Who got you into yarn?
My mum and grandma taught me to knit when I was about 4. It’s just carried on growing into a total obsession since then!
What’s the hardest part of what you do?
Not having enough hours in the day to bring all of my design ideas to life.
You’re travelling to a yarn show, what are you listening to on the way?
Country, always country!
What’s your favourite colour?
I’m going to cheat and give 3 – pink, purple and green, the Giggly Llama brand colours.
If you weren’t running a yarn business what would you be doing?
Um. Do I have to answer this one?! Living on a remote Scottish island and knitting all day long?!
What’s your favourite part of yarn shows?
The buzz of so many other people all passionate about my favourite thing.
What yarn craft do you wish you were good at?
Spinning. I’ve never tried it but would love to try one day.
Tell us 3 things we might not know about you
I’m deaf and will be getting a hearing dog in the next couple of years, which is super exciting. I love doing 1000 piece jigsaws when I get any free time between work and the kids. And I can’t wait to get back up a mountain once life goes back to normal – Scotland and the Alps are on my list.
Do you tend to go for repeatable lines or one-off products? What’s your longest-running product, range or colourway?
So far it’s been repeatable lines, and my Ladies&Gentlemen range is my longest running, though the brightly coloured Rainbow Watercolours aren’t far off.
Can you give us any hints of things you’ve got coming up soon?
Several new designs in my Ladies&Gentlemen range are coming soon, together with my Yarnimals print designs which will soon be available as greeting cards.
And finally, just for fun, would you rather fight 100 chicken-sized zombies or 10 zombie-sized chickens?
Hmm. Chicken size zombies?! I can probably jump over them and run for the hills, they’re pretty slow right?!
